Mission of the site

The mission of the HVCC web site is to provide a professional and functional design that will attract quality singers; dedicated families; alumni; local, national, and international supporters; and promote our availability to potential event coordinators.

The following goals and objectives are broken into phrases to provide time for discussion

Goals and Objectives of the site

Phase 1

1. Present a high-quality, professional look to all audiences.
   1. Design a consistent wordmark that coordinates with the HVCC logo to be used in the site banner and other event and promotional materials.
   2. Design a theme that uses the existing color scheme of maroon, midnight blue, tan, and black.
2. Employ modern web site code and functions to improve visitor usability and satisfaction.
   1. Configure menus, pages, and news posts to allow searching and archiving.
3. Update the content to reflect the rich history of the organization.
   1. Add existing content formatted for improved readability.
   2. Add photos, audio, and video of previous events to begin building a historical archive.
   3. Facilitate adding new text, photos, audio, and video to continue building a historical archive.
4. Enable member families, alumni, board, and staff to make timely updates to the site without needing web authoring skills.
   1. Install a content management system (Wordpress 2.3) that allows key members to login and add content.
   2. Configure site-user roles based on level of access required for writing, approving, and configuring content.
   3. Monitor site users and content via regular maintenance

Phase 2

1. Provide role models for singers
   1. Highlight alumni success stories
2. Reach an international audience
   1. Write news and pages using keywords and phrases to improve our rankings on Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines.
   2. Apply to be listed on industry-related web sites to facilitate event coordinators finding our group.
3. Provide press kit downloadable file online.
   1. Provide button for supporters to add to their sites.
   2. Include downloadable logos, press releases, photos, contact information for parents and media professionals.

Phase 3

1. Raise funds
   1. Enable parents and supporters to donate time and funding online.
   2. Add PayPal or other online donation service links
2. Provide affiliation links which can help offset the cost of maintaining the web site host account and domain name, such as link to Amazon.com recommended reading/listening.
3. Sell CDs or single songs online using free online services such as CD-Baby and iTunes.

Audience who will view/use the site

The audiences for this web site include singers, parents, committee members, board, staff, and alumni, as well as international event coordinators.

Domain name

The HVCChoir.com domain name was purchased at Network Solutions. The account information resides in the choir office.

Content Management

Wordpress 2.3.4 is the Content Management System (CMS) installed on the Cyberland-USA.com server. This server comes installed with PHP 4+ and a MySQL database which allows Wordpress to create categorized, dated, timed, authored, approved, and published Posts as well as static pages and outside links.

User Roles

1. Super Admin status belongs to the Web Developer, Pam Van Londen.
   • This status allows the Developer to upgrade Wordpress, back up the database, redesign/remodel the site design, and use all other functions.
2. Administrative or Editor
   • Written content will be managed by the Board, Directors, office staff, and parent volunteers, using Administrative or Editor status.
   • These people will Edit and Publish the articles.
   • Member authentication will be managed by the Super Admin.
3. Contributor/Author Status:
   1. Contributor is the default role placed on new registrants. If members want to upload images with their proposed articles, then their status must be changed to Author by the Web Administrators.
   2. Members of HVCC can write news posts and comment on articles.
   3. Members can update their web site contact information, change their password, and write a short biography.

Browser compatibility needs

All content will be visible in the three major browsers, which include Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and FireFox. These browsers have the most market share as of April 2007.
