Auditions for 2010/2011 Season

Auditions for new members will be held September 7, 2010 in the Education Hall at the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of 8th & Monroe in Corvallis.

Contact the office if you need an alternative day and time.

Festival Choir: 4:00pm to 6:00pm

Singers with at least one year of Children’s Choir 2 experience

Chamber Choir: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Singers in high school who will be new to Chamber Choir

Returning Chamber Choir voice check

Tuesday, September 14th 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm & 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

All voice checks will take place at the First Presbyterian Church

Returning members of Chamber Choir are requested to come and sing for Carol in order to be placed correctly in sections for the coming year. (Singers not in sports should take earlier times so that we can end at a reasonable hour).

Annual Parent Meeting 2010

The Annual Parent Meeting will be held on Monday, September 13, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm beginning in Central Park at 8th & Monroe.

Student Directors will facilitate games for your children while meetings are held from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm.

Each family should bring their own picnic dinner and drinks.

It is very important to attend this meeting because you will need to pay tuition, pick up schedules and learn about volunteer opportunities, tours (Chamber Choir, Mozart Festival, Salzburg, Festival/CH2, Holiday Tour, Portland) and other choir activities during the year.
Of course we will introduce our fantastic and dedicated staff listed below.

Fall 2010 Rehearsal Schedule

All rehearsals are held at The First Presbyterian Church at the corner of 8th and Monroe in Corvallis. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the first rehearsal so you can check in, pick up music and receive a copy of the current newsletter.

Parents, please note that our coordinators arrive only 20 minutes before rehearsal for check in. We cannot be responsible for your singers if they are dropped off earlier.

Men’s choir forming

We apologize for not having clearly stated in last week’s InChoirer that our initial concept was to ask for interest in a possible HVCC Men’s Choir; the Corvallis community already has a mixed adult choir.

Thank you to last week’s responses. Though we are currently regrouping to put more thought into our original concept, we are still willing to take names of interested folks.

Prep & CH1 mid-season auditions

Auditions for Preparatory & Children’s 1 choirs will be held at 4:00pm to 5:00pm, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church.

Auditions are open for children grades 3 and 4. No reservation is required. Just show up ready to sing a few notes! Our winter season begins January 4, 2010.

Please contact us if you have a singer in a different age group. We are always
happy to set up individual auditions!

Papa’s Pizza Fund-Raiser

Papa’s Pizza hosted a fundraiser for HVCC on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

Pick up a flyer at the attendance tables or from the weekly In-Choir-er, bring it with you on the 11th and a portion of the proceeds of that sale will go to HVCC. It can be applied to take-out as well as dine-in.

Julie said you did a great job watching her in rehearsal especially during the fermatas. Great job. Please remember to memorize your lyrics to all of your pieces. We will be having rehearsal with Choir One on the 9th and I would like Sing a Glad Noel memorized. Remember formal pictures for the program will be on Monday, the 16. Please come to rehearsal that night in your uniform. If you forget you won’t be able to be in the program pictures. Let us know if you have any questions.

Hello CH1, I was so grateful to see all your bright shining faces last rehearsal! I am elated that you all are feeling well!Just a couple of reminders. We seem to be forgetting our music, water bottles and pencils for rehearsal. It is very important that you bring them every time! Last rehearsal we made a great deal of progress toward our songs and we are in great shape for the upcoming concert! Just 6 rehearsals left.

We are combining our rehearsal THIS WEEK with Prep Choir. See you on NOV 9 from 6:15 to 7:30 PM. We do the same on DEC 7 as well. See you soon! Aimee~

Children’s Choir 2 News – Carol Nelson

Things to remember from rehearsal:

The 3 patterns in “In Dulci Jubilo”. We learned the last one in rehearsal on Tuesday this week.
The importance of the key change! It brings life to the music and stirs the emotions of the listener.
Remember to practice knowing the names of your lines and spaces in the treble clef. Use your hand staff and then see if you can identify the notes in your music.

You are going to be expert at reading music!!!
